December's Hot Button of the Month Contest Winner is…Ginny Murphy from Talk-To-Me Tees in Carmi, IL. Ginny's "It's a White County Christmas" buttons were used to promote the community's holiday festival and to encourage people to holiday shop at hometown retailers. "The original black-and-white logo was designed by a Carmi High School student - and I was asked to make it into a commemorative button to be sold at the festival," said Ginny. "Going one step further, I came up with a comparable 'sponsor' button for contributing business owners to wear all week to promote the event, plus a matching 'sponsor' window cling for dispay in their shop windows and on their vehicles."
Ginny notes that the festival was a great success this year, and the Chamber has already asked her to work on a new design for next year's buttons.
As the Hot Button of the Month winner, Kim received a $100 Badge-A-Minit gift certificate. So she can get a head start on all those buttons!

Pam Burke, a high school math teacher in Potosi, MO submitted this cute interpretation of Santa's "Ho, ho, ho!" "I wanted to bring a bit of fun to my math classes," said Pam. This button certainly helped students see the humor in math!
Joe Liotta from Joe Liotta Art & Design in Bayside, NY, made this button for an acquaintance who sold holiday ornaments and wanted a humorous button to wear while doing so. "The client was pleased," said Joe. "And others found the button hilarious!" We want to note that Joe isn't totally a "bah humbug" guy - he also produced a variety of other buttons with a more traditional, happy holiday feel!
Marilyn Lavins from Philadephia, PA submitted this button that she made from a photo of her daughter Jennifer's home while visiting her in San Francisco during the holidays. Jennifer, an electrical engineer, renovated the home by herself. "The button is a portrait of a very dynamic woman who ventured out to seek her fortune...and found more than she had ever dreamed of," said Marilyn.
The popularity of Geo Caching is growing - and so is the use of a button to commemorate the find. Dean French from Denton, TX, produces a signature button to put into his cache for people to find. He generally makes about 100 of a design - and changes the design when those are gone. People collect the buttons or used them to trade with others.
